Summary
The Director of Accounting reports to the Assistant Vice-President Finance and manages all aspects of the accounting department for a multi-plant manufacturer. This position interacts with all levels within the company and is heavily relied upon for accurate, timely, and meaningful information.
Responsibilities

Direct the day-to-day actions of the accounting department

Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures

Responsible for preparation and review of the monthly and annual close
-
Prepare, review, and distribute monthly financial statement
-
Monitor for the accuracy of financial data and ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded.

Responsible for all aspects of cost accounting including machine overhead rates, bills of material, standard production rates, cost calculations, and manufacturing variances
-
Responsible for inventory analysis and reporting
-
Lead and direct physical inventories
-
Develop and ensure adherence to company internal controls

Prepare, report, and analyze key performance indicators
-
Responsible for the accuracy of general ledger account reconciliations
-
Manage accounts payable functions
-
Coordinate external audits, direct and execute internal audits
-
Responsible for calculation of various accruals and allocations
-
Manage sales tax reporting and payments
-
Manage and administer employee expense account reporting
-
Responsible for record retention
-
Responsible for governmental reporting
-
Responsible for the accuracy of bank reconciliations
-
Administrator for various banking functions
-
Responsible for the accuracy of the vendor master file management and annual 1099 electronic filings
Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
-
7-10 years of experience as an Accounting Manager, in an manufacturing environment (chemical preferred)
-
CPA preferred, but not required
-
Deep understanding of accounting principles and processes
-
Attention to detail, organization and accuracy
-
Proficiency in Windows applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) JD Edwards or similar ERP experience
-
Able to effectively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders
-
Ability to utilize business intelligence tools (ReportsNow is a plus)

Familiar with Concur for employee expense reporting
-
Familiar with Bottomline Technologies for accounts payable automation is a plus
-
Strong organizational and analytical skills analytical abilities
